The Alabama Medicaid Agency has announced that its district offices in Dothan and Mobile will close at noon on Friday, October 9, 2025. This early closure affects residents in Dothan and Houston County who utilize the local Medicaid services, as well as those in the Mobile area. The agency stated this decision is a direct result of a state of emergency declared by Gov. Kay Ivey.
Beyond the specific district offices, Medicaid outstationed workers across more than 40 counties will also not be available on Friday. These workers are crucial staff members who typically provide assistance to individuals within county health departments and other local offices, serving a vital role in connecting residents with Medicaid services. The widespread unavailability of these staff members means that many local points of contact for Medicaid inquiries and support will be temporarily closed for the day.
The list of affected counties where outstationed workers will be unavailable includes several in the Wiregrass region and surrounding areas critical to Dothan Source readers: Houston, Henry, Dale, Geneva, Coffee, Pike, Barbour, Bullock, Butler, Crenshaw, Covington, Escambia, and Russell. Other counties across the state impacted by this unavailability are Autauga, Baldwin, Bibb, Chambers, Chilton, Clarke, Choctaw, Conecuh, Coosa, Dallas, Elmore, Greene, Hale, Lee, Lowndes, Macon, Marengo, Mobile, Monroe, Montgomery, Perry, Pickens, Sumter, Tallapoosa, Tuscaloosa, Washington, and Wilcox. This comprehensive list indicates a significant, statewide impact on in-person Medicaid assistance on Friday.
For Medicaid beneficiaries and providers seeking assistance, the Alabama Medicaid Agency confirmed that all other Alabama Medicaid offices not specifically listed for early closure or staff unavailability will remain open during normal business hours. This means some in-person services may still be accessible in areas not affected by the state of emergency declaration's impact on these specific offices and staff.
However, for those in affected areas, or for anyone preferring remote assistance, the Alabama Medicaid Agency offers phone support. The Alabama Medicaid Recipient Call Center is available toll-free at 800-362-1504. Additionally, the Alabama Medicaid Provider Assistance Center can be reached toll-free at 800-688-7989. Both call centers operate Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Central time. These phone lines serve as a primary alternative for inquiries and support while local offices and outstationed staff are unavailable.
The agency further stated that any new updates regarding office hours or service availability will be posted on the official Medicaid website and its Facebook page. Residents and providers are encouraged to check these official channels for the latest information as it becomes available.
