Angelique resided at Hasty’s Haven, a rescue organization, and her death has deeply impacted its founder, Joann Kelly. Kelly described the event as feeling "like a nightmare," stating that her entire rescue team has been left traumatized by the loss. The rescue shared that Angelique arrived at Hasty's Haven several years ago, accompanied by three other donkeys from her herd. Before coming to the rescue, Angelique and her companions served as therapy donkeys for special needs children. At Hasty's Haven, they continued to play a role in community education, known for their gentle nature and being the first to greet visitors.
